About The Proposal
At the hearing on the 29th Nov the planning highland council approved the AMEC application for 27 x 330ft high turbines even although the planning department had recommended only 21 be approved.
The site itself is already approximately 300 metres above sea-level, rendering the completed wind farm development visible from many locations all around north Skye and thereby becoming an unavoidable part of the landscape and skyline.
The 25 year period of operation would follow a construction phase 12 - 18 months. Road stone is to be sourced from on site quarries and the turbines we be landed at Uig and transported by road.
At the end of the projected period of operation, the site would either need to be decommissioned and removed OR re-powered with replacement turbines.
The Reaction
This proposal has, not surprisingly, caused some surprise, anger and consternation amongst the local and not-so-local community.
